Purpose

SCCOP

The South Central Chiefs of Police (SCCoP) Association Inc. is a non-stock corporation in the State of Connecticut whose purpose is to:


  • Improve the level of cooperation among its members
  • Facilitate the articulation and advancement of police policies in the South Central Connecticut region
  • Explore regional and metropolitan approaches to problems in law enforcement
  • Cooperate with Connecticut Police Chiefs Association with statewide law enforcement endeavors
  • Encourage adoption of measures useful to fighting crime and improving the administration of justice

Members

The current active members of the SCCoP are the Chiefs of Police from the following law enforcement agencies:

The Corporation is also comprised of the following associate members:

  • Commanding Officers of Troops I, F, and G of the Connecticut State Police
  • Commanding and Deputy Commanding Officers of the Central District of the Connecticut State Police
  • Commanding Officers of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force
  • Resident Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the United States’ Secret Service
  • Special Agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigations
  • Chief of Police, Branford Police Department
  • Chief of Police, East Haven Police Department 
  • Chief of Police, Southern Connecticut State University
  • Chief of Police, University of New Haven

Organization

The corporation meets monthly to transact such business as may come before it. The general order of business is approval of minutes, reports from Connecticut Police Chiefs Association committees, reports from Connecticut State Police and Federal Agencies, the president’s report, director for SCCJA staff report, old business, and new business.


From time to time, business meetings will include presentations on topics pertinent to the purpose of the corporation. The February meeting is deemed the annual meeting of the corporation at which the secretary-treasurer presents the financial report.


The corporation has a board of directors whose duties are to transact necessary business between meetings of the corporation and to conduct such other business as may be referred to it. The board of directors shall consist of the corporate officers, a director-at-large, and the immediate past president.

Training

A primary activity of the corporation in furtherance of its purpose is training for police executives. Typically, active members attend SCCoP training classes three to four times per year with each session being four to six hours in length. The training keeps executives up to date with developing knowledge and best practices and satisfies recertification requirements. Active members are often joined at training by chiefs of police from the Western Connecticut region.
